Gaming
It's possible to play a few games while in Silent Heaven, using dice or cards. Your character's skills have no effect on the random outcomes of these items.
To roll dice, have a pair of dice either in your character's hand or in the room, and type ROLL (dice). For example, to roll a pair of six-sided dice, type ROLL SIX.
ROLL SIX
Cards have a variety of uses that allow you to play any number of card games you desire. The number of cards in a deck and the faces of a deck can be changed as you desire by typing CHANGE DECK.
CHANGE DECK
You can have between 2 and 78 cards in a deck. The card faces accept color codes, just like artwork.
When you're ready to start playing with a deck, you'll likely want to shuffle it, or sort it back into its original order. To do these actions, type SHUFFLE DECK or SORT DECK
SHUFFLE DECK
SORT DECK
If someone wants to cut the deck, GIVE the deck to that character. Then the player types CUT (number). For example, to cut the deck at 20 cards deep, type:
CUT 20
Next, you'll want to either deal cards to everyone in the room by typing DEAL (number), or draw cards by typing DRAW (number). You can also specify ALL if you want to divvy out the remaining cards evenly. The remainder will stay in the deck.
DEAL 2
DRAW 4
DEAL ALL
When using DEAL, cards will be dealt out to all conscious, unpaused PCs, as well as any puppeted NPCs in the room. If you want to deal cards only to a specific character, you can include the character's name in the DEAL command. For example, to deal 3 cards to Jane, type:
DEAL 3 JANE
Now that you have cards in your character's hand, you can LOOK at their HAND. Your character also has a space in front of them at the TABLE (regardless of what surface they're playing on), plus a DISCARD pile. You can also collectively look at all of your character's CARDS at once, or LOOK (player) CARDS. Here are a few examples of how to look at card zones:
LOOK HAND
LOOK TABLE
LOOK DISCARD
LOOK CARDS
LOOK JANE CARDS
LOOK JANE TABLE
LOOK JANE HAND
Each character's hand is private information, and you'll only see the number of cards held when looking at their hand.
To flip up cards from the deck and put them on the table in front of your character, type FLIP (number). This is handy for games like hold 'em.
FLIP 3
To flip up cards from the deck and put them on your character's discard pile (known in some games as burning or milling cards), type MILL (number). This is handy for games like hold 'em.
MILL 2
To reveal all the cards in your character's hand and place them on the table, type REVEAL.
REVEAL
If you don't want to show off any of your cards and instead scoop them up into a face-down pile that nobody can see, type SCOOP.
SCOOP
If you're holding the deck, typing SCOOP will scoop up all the cards and put them back in the deck in order. Be sure to SHUFFLE afterward!
OTHER CARD-RELATED ACTIONS
For these actions, when a command refers to (card number), that means the number that precedes it in a zone. For example, suppose your character has this hand:
1. Ace of Spades
2. Seven of Spades
3. King of Hearts
If you want to play the Seven of Spades, its card number is 2.
To play a specific card from your character's hand onto their table, type PLAY (card number).
PLAY 2
To discard a specific card from your character's hand into their discard pile, type DISCARD (card number).
DISCARD 2
To move a card from one zone to another in a way not specified above, you can type (starting zone) (card number) TO (destination zone).
TABLE 2 TO DISCARD
HAND 2 TO DISCARD
TABLE 2 TO DECK
Specifying DECK as the destination zone will put the card on the bottom of the deck. Specifying DECK as the starting zone will move that many cards from the top of the deck into the specified zone.
You can also rearrange cards in a zone by specifying the same zone twice.
TABLE 2 TO TABLE
That will move the card in the 2nd position of your character's table to the bottom position.
Happy gaming!
