Medicine

Whether a paramedic, nurse, doctor or EMT, the skill of Medicine focuses on a desire to heal all that ails humanity. Usually. Most of the time. To practice medicine in Silent Heaven, your character needs a patient and a medical station. Additionally, your patient needs to either consent to treatment or be unconscious. To consent to treatment, type TRUST (name) TO HEAL. For example, if Greg needs Jane to heal him, Greg types: TRUST JANE TO HEAL For more information on the trust system, see HELP TRUST. From there, your character can TREAT a patient. For example, to treat Greg, type: TREAT GREG There's a wide range of ailments someone trained in Medicine can help alleviate. The messages for these treatments are intentionally somewhat vague, so as to not be presumptuous of what's happening in the RP. What your character does in RP to treat their patients is up to your imagination. Treatment always follows a priority order. Your character will always attempt to diagnose and treat things in the following order. - Bleeding sites - Chemical overdoses - Unconsciousness - Superficial injuries - Deep wounds For example, a character with both a bleeding wound and a chemical overdose will have their bleeding wounds treated first. Your character can treat each character once a day. That's one treatment per day, per patient. Think of it like a session of physical therapy, or a daily check-in sort of thing. Overtreatment risks opening wounds, pulling muscles, or otherwise injuring a patient. Multiple doctors can treat the same character on the same day to speed things along. This means that medical teams function better than a single doctor. Emotional damage can't be cured with TREAT. Only time heals those wounds. BLOOD TESTS AND HARVESTING Besides treating patients, there are two other things a character sufficiently skilled in Medicine can do at a medical station: run blood tests and harvest non-vital organs. To draw blood from a consenting or unconscious patient and run some tests on the results, type SAMPLE (name). For example, to sample Greg's blood, type: SAMPLE GREG Depending on a character's actions in Silent Heaven, a blood test report can get weird. To harvest organs from an unconscious patient, type HARVEST (name). For example, to harvest Greg's organs, type: HARVEST GREG Harvesting may only be done to an unconscious character who has set their consent checklist with CHECK to be GREEN for organ harvesting. Organs will regrow on PCs at a rate of roughly one per month. Missing an organ causes no permanent mechanical harm to the unconscious character. If attempting to harvest without a medical station, a randomly chosen item is harvested from the character instead. A dark aura surrounds a harvested character, preventing the character from being harvested again for the next 24 hours. Happy healing!
