Travel

If you happen to find yourself in possession of a bike, board, or boat, you can ride it around outside faster than your character's normal movement speed. Boats have the added specialty of allowing your character to travel over the icy cold waters of Silent Heaven, which are too dangerous to swim in. Vehicles are large, cumbersome items that don't fit into your inventory. Instead, you'll need to secure a vehicle to a rack or pier by typing SECURE (vehicle). This has the same effect as typing DROP (vehicle). If you try to drop a vehicle in a room with a rack or pier, your character will automatically secure it. For example, to secure a bike, you can type either of the following: SECURE BIKE DROP BIKE To ride your vehicle again, you can type UNLOCK (vehicle) or GET (vehicle). For example, to retrieve your bike, type either of the following: UNLOCK BIKE GET BIKE If you were the one who secured it, you can retrieve it from the rack. Nobody else can unlock it. To help differentiate your vehicle from others on a rack, you may want to find a character who can customize it. See HELP CUSTOMIZE for more information. When you look at your inventory, you'll see that you're holding your vehicle in your hands. This means that your hands are occupied while traveling on a vehicle, either to hold onto handlebars, to paddle, or to maintain your balance. You may use any format of movement commands to control where you travel: NORTH N W N N SSES Your Travel skill determines how fast your character moves while on a vehicle and how likely they are to lose their concentration and get injured. Some vehicles have multiple seats. Your character can ride with another character as long as there's an available seat by typing RIDE (name). For example, if you want to ride on a boat piloted by a character named Jane, you can ride with Jane by typing: RIDE JANE When you're done riding, type STOP. STOP If you don't like who's riding with you, you can eject all your passengers by typing EJECT. EJECT This will dump out all your passengers and stagger them for a few seconds. While out on water, you cannot leave a boat or eject other characters. It's too dangerous and risky. Boats are intended for use on water only. If you really need to transfer a boat to a different location on land, you can THROW it as a means of transporting it. See HELP THROW for more information. Safe travels!
