Props
PROPS
Props are in-game items that usually have no mechanical effect. They exist solely for roleplaying purposes.
Some props are musical instruments or microphones, which provide a bonus to the Performance skill when held.
COMMON PROPS
Some common items don't exist as in-game items in Silent Heaven. You're allowed to roleplay as if you have these items for the listed purposes only. For example, don't go trying to stab someone with a pen and expecting it to work out in your favor!
- A pen, pencil, or marker, for writing on paper.
- A tissue or napkin, for wiping up minor inconveniences.
- Cheap utensils, plates, and bowls.
- A lighter, for smoking any drug.
- Makeup products, if used for their intended purpose and always consensually.
- Body & facial care products, if used specifically for such care only.
- Spare parts, if used specifically for repairing broken items.
Anything else needs to be crafted at a workbench or art studio.
SALVAGING ITEMS
Silent Heaven is a place that hasn't had reliable trash collection in many years. As such, if you'd like to create a prop strictly for roleplay purposes, you can do so by first finding a location in-game where the item you want to find would likely be, then sending a SERVICE request to verify if the prop is possible to find there by typing SERVICE HERE.
SERVICE HERE
An initial request doesn't need to be long. For example, "I'd like to salvage a coil of wires from the electronics listed in the desc of this room. Is that fine?"
If approved, roleplay it out, then submit another SERVICE request for builders. Simply write a name and desc for an item you're recovering from a messy location. Even if it's just a big bag of garbage. Avoid salvaging items that are closely related to items that have a mechanical purpose.
Room changes such as remodeling the room desc, modifying an exit, or changing the environment may also be requested via SERVICE. These are less likely to be approved, but we'll work with you to try to come up with a solution. If approved, the next step is to gather a reasonable group of characters to roleplay the cleaning or remodeling scene. Once the scene is complete and you've all come to an agreement for how the room should look afterward, submit another SERVICE request with the updated room change.
Most improvements will come with some sort of drawback. For example, if it's an improvement to a residential room, the cost of its residence is likely to go up. Additionally, trash and filth will need to go somewhere. If it's not in a room desc, it'll be created as a garbage prop.
Keep in mind that Silent Heaven is never going to be bright and shiny. There's a limit to how much any room can be improved. Many locations can't be improved beyond their current state, which is why we ask that you make a request via SERVICE before submitting your service request.
For example, "Jeff and Jane would like to clear the trash out of this room and paint the walls. We'd just like to update the room description. Is that okay?"
You can also lower the quality of a room through the opposite means -- bring a bunch of garbage to a single room, roleplay what you're doing with it, and use it to change a room's environment, update the description, lower the rent, or even, in rare circumstances, change an exit. Again, please submit a SERVICE request before doing this to first ensure that it's viable.
