Doors

A locked door comes paired with a keypad. Your character must know the code in order to unlock, open, and enter a door. To do so, type (direction) (code). For example, to go through a locked door to the north with the code 1269432, type: N 1269432 Sometimes you just want to open a door without going through it. For that, type OPEN (direction) WITH (code). For example, to open the same door as above, type: OPEN N WITH 1269432 A door will automatically close after 15 seconds. To close it sooner, type CLOSE. CLOSE Some locked doors are for places that can be rented. You can look in the direction of the door to see its occupancy status. LOOK N To rent a room, your character must pay for at least a week of rent in advance by typing PAY (dollars) TO (direction). For example, to pay for a $4-per-week door to the east, type: PAY 4 TO EAST Your character may pay more to extend a rental. Your character may pay to extend others' rentals, too. After having rented a door, you may assume your character has received a master code, and that your character will never reveal a master code to anyone. This means you may enter or open the door of a place your character has rented without needing to type any code. E OPEN E Additionally, your character will receive a guest code, which they can share with other characters. If a character gives your character a guest code, you may enter and open the door using the code as in the top examples. No code is required when exiting from the other side of a keypad door. Hidden characters may not pass through open doors. If you ever need to change the guest code of a keypad door that your character rents, stand where the keypad is and type RECODE (direction). For example, to change the guest code on the door to the east, type: RECODE E You'll receive a new guest code. The old guest code will be immediately invalidated. If your character is ready to move out, you can type VACATE (direction) to clear out their rental, making the door vacant again. If they have over a week left in rental time, they'll receive cash equal to half the remaining rent cost, as long as it's at least a dollar. For example, to vacate the door to the east, type: VACATE EAST You may not use RP to coerce another character to vacate a location or give out a door code. However, you may have your character barter for a code, if you wish. There are some rentable doors that are on the territory of another group, and it's valid to initiate conflict over those locations only, as long as the conflict follows the standard rules for conflicts. (See HELP CONFLICT.) Sometimes, you'll want to get the attention of someone behind a door. To do this, type KNOCK (direction). For example, to knock to the west, type: KNOCK W You can also TAP or BANG on a door instead of knocking. There's no mechanical difference between knocking, tapping, or banging. Each sound will travel the same distance in each direction. Category: HELP 2 (Movement) < Previous - Seating | Next - Pause >
