Harm

OUR PLEDGE TO PROTECT THE COMMUNITY Our goal is to maintain a healthy community in a safe environment, and that starts by being healthy and respectful staff members. The contributions of our community are just as valid as staff contributions. We are not a "step above" our community or "superior" to you in any way. The community is what makes Silent Heaven special. We volunteer our time for you, and we respect you. Occasionally, we may have to protect our dedicated core from troublemakers, dogwhistlers, loud self-servers, and other people that pose harm to our community. In these instances, we work as a team, calmly and collectively, to decide what the best course of action is. COMMUNITY REMOVAL "Community removal" is the long-term removal of a player or staff member from both the Silent Heaven in-game world and the Silent Heaven community server. There's no excuse that justifies bad behavior. We all have our quirks and issues, but they do not justify hurtful actions. It's unacceptable to target the community or anyone in the community with harmful behavior. Being a good writer or large contributor is no justification for being a bad actor. Regardless of your level of contribution to Silent Heaven, if you pose intentional or persistent harm to the Silent Heaven community, you will be removed from the community. - "Intentional harm" is when it's determined that your harmful actions were made with deliberate malice. - "Persistent harm" is when your harmful actions are unintentional, but they persist after receiving a talk with staff about curbing the behavior. The severity of the harm will be taken into account when determining whether additional talks may be granted before community removal. Harm includes, but is not limited to: 1. Aggression — Acting in a rude, disparaging, confrontational, instigating or aggressive manner, including passive-aggressiveness and micro-aggressions over any OOC medium. Aggression also includes intentionally continuing a discussion after being asked to stop by staff or moderators, demanding special treatment, and more. 2. Deception — Any deceptive behavior over any OOC medium. This includes lying, truth-by-omission, intentional misrepresentation of events, chicanery, repeated rulebreaking followed by acting innocent, ignoring staff, attempting to deceive staff via journal entries, asking staff or players to reveal IC spoilers, pressing anyone in the community to reveal IRL details, and more. 3. Hate — Expressing bigotry over any medium. 4. Malice — Acting in a way that goes against the spirit of the game, ruins the fun for other players, makes the community an uncomfortable place to be, provides an OOC influence on IC actions, gives an unintended advantage, or causes damage to the stability of the community. This includes trolling, cheating, bribery, collusion, OOC betting on IC outcomes, executing malicious code, exploiting unintended effects, and more. 5. Theme — Violating the theme of the game, such as including forbidden topics in your roleplay. Also includes forbidding a character from roleplaying with another character, or maliciously denying roleplay with another character by intentionally and repeatedly logging off when they log on. 6. Violating Policy — Breaking any policy. See HELP POLICY or the #policies channel for policies. Community removal lasts for 6 months. Someone removed from the community may rejoin after six months if: - The removed person is able to show to staff how their behavior has improved. Inability to demonstrate what they've done to improve is grounds to deny rejoining, and the 6-month timer starts again. - The removed person didn't attempt to access the Silent Heaven community or in-game content in this 6-month period. If they have, the removal is escalated to a permanent removal. - The removed person hasn't been removed once prior. In other words, if someone needs to be removed a second time, it's a permanent removal. All community removals and rejoins are made public by staff in order to maintain transparency with the community. When a player is removed from the community, their character is immediately removed from the in-game world, permanently. Storytellers will work with characters affected by the removal in order to maintain IC continuity. A player who is allowed to rejoin the community will have to create a new character. Thank you for taking the time to read all the policy documents! If your character hasn't made it to the hotel yet, we recommend pausing here and continuing your adventure.
